Incorporate video into your lessons and projects

Video Projects: Authentic Learning - and Fun to Boot!

Teachers:  It's September and you are pulling out lessons, making plans and gearing up.  Perhaps you're also thinking: What can I do differently this year to give my class valuable and stimulating learning experiences?

At NCTV we offer this suggestion, try to incorporate video!  Scott Maddock, Principal of the 3R School did last year and found some great results.  His students produced "What's Happening at 3R School?" - a program shot, edited and starring 3R kids about what makes their school different.  "The kids loved it," said Scott, "and when we showed it at graduation, the parents loved it too."  He also found that participating eighth graders anticipated using their NCTV editing and studio production experience to springboard into using video during their high school careers.

Consider the possibilities.  Students can use our studio facility to produce video reports, mock commercials or political campaigns, music or dramatic programs or discussion forums.  They can also check out video cameras and shoot video at school or in the community, edit using IMovie or Final Cut Pro, and have their programs broadcast on cable TV and archived for video on demand at www.nevadacountytv.org.  You may even consider having students interact with other classes using video blogs or podcasting.  The tools are all here at NCTV.
